they're really good writers, though

So tonight I went to this party, where there was a band. The band consisted of Dave Barry on lead guitar, Mitch Albom on keyboards, Ridley Pearson, Amy Tan, Greg Iles, and a couple of other people who know how to play instruments. I felt like I had walked into a Saturday Night Live skit.

This band is called the Rock Bottom Remainders, and they were, surprisingly, pretty good! Or, well, they were certainly enthusiastic, and they were a huge hit with the book-ish, white-ish, baby boomer-ish crowd. Picture Dave Barry on stage with a guitar, yelling, "People think Amy Tan is such a good girl! But I'm here to tell you... AMY TAN IS A SLUT!!!" And the room goes wild as the lovely Ms. Tan struts on stage in a tight leather dominatrix outfit, complete with whips and chains, and sings "These Boots Were Made For Walkin'." And of course she had to whip the asses of the men on stage. The whole thing was weird, and fun. Good times.

How fun!! Dave Barry rockin' out - that's something you would have to see to believe.

Didn't Stephen King used to play with them?
Jen: Jan is writing more book reviews than you these days. Scary!

You're right - Stephen King is part of that band; he just wasn't here that weekend.

And don't taunt me with that competetive book review comment! Damn you overachievers! grumble grumble...

Oh, don't worry - you're kicking my ass all over the place as far as writing the reviews, so take comfort in that fact :)
