talented, inspirational, gorgeous, positive role model

Can you believe 16 year-old Jessica Watson finished her journey around the world a week ago and I haven't blogged about it yet?  Honestly, I cried when I saw the footage of her crossing the finish line.  It's so amazing what she's done.  I am so completely humbled by her achievements.  I sit here and complain about how hard this is, or that is... she's 16 and just SAILED A SMALL BOAT AROUND THE ENTIRE EARTH BY HERSELF.  I have no words.

Jessica rounds the Cape

I am still diligently checking Jessica Watson's blog. Very exciting - she just rounded Cape Horn, which is ... a milestone (what do I know? I've never sailed in my life). It sounds like her parents came to South America and did a fly-over as she rounded the cape... that just chokes me up! And the Chilean navy and Argentinian navy sent boats out to say hello! I cry!

I just can't believe this girl. I'm a little obsessed. She has been at sea for three months. She has not laid eyes on another person - or even on a piece of land - for three months - and she has about 5 more months to go. Sixteen years old! I know she has a phone and the internet and whatnot, but I am just so intrigued by the whole thing. Sixteen!

makes me seasick just thinking about it

I'm obsessed with checking Jessica Watson's blog. Jessica, you may or may not know, is the 16 year old Australian girl who is sailing around the world by herself in a little pink boat. It boggles my mind. She'll be at sea for 8 months.

What a role model. So brave! So inspirational! So... misguided? I mean, Jesse is obviously not dumb - but is this a safe idea? She checks in with her team twice a day and the boat can drive itself and her parents back her and there's radar and extra power and they've obviously thought of everything - but still! She's 16! There are pirates out there! And probably sea monsters! And did I mention she's 16?

Personally, pirates and shipwrecks and storms notwithstanding, I don't know if my 16 year-old self could have handled the enormity of this:

Plus, well, she did crash into a tanker that one time... but I'm rooting for her and love reading her blog. Especially the parts about her day-to-day life, like what she eats and how she bathes.

Safe travels, Jessica!
