Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood
Book # 27, by Marjane Satrapi.
I had never even heard of this book until I started work in the bookstore a couple of weeks ago, but I think it is pretty amazing. It is a touching memoir about a little girl growing up in Iran during the Islamic Revolution, and it's in comic strip form. Quite a combo, no? I don't know much about graphic novels, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much it affected me. I liked little Marjane... she is feisty, smart, and sweet. And, not knowing too much about Iranian politics, I got a bit of a history lesson while I read.
Tomorrow at work I plan to pick up Persepolis 2: The Story of a Return and Embroideries, and then start my own little Marjane Satrapi fan club.
